When Mom and Dad married, their first home was at 230 Parkhill Street, just north of Portage Avenue in the Kirkfield Park area of Winnipeg. It was not a new house, but was a perfect little starter home for the new couple.
Mom wrote letters to her father, Fred Stevens, to tell him all about her new home and new husband, and to thank him for his wedding cheque, which was used to buy a stove.

Mom considered the area "pretty much like the country" because it was so far from downtown. |

The letter Mom wrote to her father in July introduced Fred Stevens to his son-in-law Murray Fraser.

Sadly, Murray Fraser never met his father-in-law. Fred Stevens died in his home from a heart attack on November 13, 1949. He was 64.
