Pilot Mound's weekly newspaper,
The Sentinel Courier, runs a column entitled "Down Memory Lane," featuring excerpts from past issues. In a recent (January 31, 2012) edition, a brief item dated January 31, 1952 reads, "Oil was discovered at Elrose, 90 miles south of Saskatoon. It was a major natural gas find on land that once belonged to Pete Fraser of Pilot Mound."
No doubt Pete would have read the article in his 1952
Sentinel. His reaction is unknown.
For better or worse, the Frasers never packed up the truck and moved to Beverley. I suppose we can take some small consolation in the fact that Pete (1876-1955) is still being mentioned in his town's newspaper 57 years after his death.
